About the work

This limited edition, Key to the Museum of Hypothetical Lifetimes was created by
Mexican artist Pedro Reyes to accompany his installation, Sanitorium, which forms part of the group show, Spirit of Utopia, at the Whitechapel Gallery (July - September, 2013).

Reyes’ work in this show is reflective of his playful exploration into the experiences of therapy, theatre and performance art, and this edition - a glass fibre relief map of a hypothetical lifetime, complete with ‘heartbreak’ and ‘seven year itch’ - provides a rare, yet affordable, opportunity to acquire an outstanding work by Reyes.

About the artist

Training initially as an architect, Pedro Reyes’s work forms an on-going dialogue
between building design and structure, and the socio-political aspects of culture.
His interest in structural design informs his exploration of the intricacies of social
interactions created and maintained by built spaces, forming an investigation into
aspects of human communication and social habits.
